About the Artist
My name is Darcy Kaye DeMenno and I’m originally from Southern California.
I worked as a set painter in TV and motion pictures during the ‘90’s, then in the beginning of 2001 I started my real estate career while I raised my son.
My high school sweetheart Mark and I got married just over two years ago. Mark moved up to Sonoma in 2019 from Marin to be closer to his grown children and I followed him. Throughout the first 4 1/2 years we were together, I was traveling back and forth between SoCal and NorCal. I was winding down my real estate business there until we decided to stay in Sonoma full time. We found a home here last year where we have combined our lives and have settled down in one place together.
Since then, I’ve had the time to start doing my artwork again. It is something I’ve done intermittently throughout my life. As I’ve gotten older and a bit more confident in my abilities, I’ve opened up to whatever creative ideas present themselves to me. This series I’ve called ‘Junkyard Glitter’, art for glitter’s sake. It started with my child-like love of anything that sparkles. A few years back I happened upon the art of JT Burke. His incredible work gave me the inspiration to begin using old pieces of jewelry I didn’t wear anymore, then finding pieces at yard and estate sales, then friends began bringing me their old and unwanted pieces. I’ve combined my love of sparkle with my love of flora and fauna, particularly birds and bugs.
I use acrylic paint, and anything I can glue rhinestones, glitter, beads and gems onto!
